Public Agenda Report on Consumers and Price Transparency Cited in Health Affairs Blog Post

In a blog post [1]about payment reform, Suzanne Delbanco, Executive Director, Catalyst for Payment Reform, discussed the impact of these initiatives on consumers. She cited findings from a recent Public Agenda study [2], funded under the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Understanding the Use and Impact of Price Data in Health Care solicitation, that found [3]that more than half of Americans have actively looked for health care price information, with 21 percent comparing prices across multiple providers. While the Public Agenda findings indicate that Americans are amenable to shopping for better-value care, Delbanco concludes that engaging consumers in payment reform may be most effective when done within the context of their own benefit design.
