A HCFO-funded study [1]by Ateev Mehrotra, M.D., RAND Corporation, was cited in the Kaiser Health News article [2]“Walgreens Becomes 1st Retail Chain to Diagnose, Treat Chronic Conditions.” The article describes efforts by some retail clinics to expand their service offerings to include more primary care. The article references Mehrotra’s finding that the cost of care in a retail clinic is roughly 30-40 percent less than that cost of similar care received at a doctor’s office.
