Findings from a HCFO study led by David C. Grabowski, Ph.D., professor at Harvard Medical School, were highlighted in the January 5 The Oregonian article, “Oregon among National Leaders in Number of Assisted Living Facilities.” The article provides a history of assisted living establishments in Oregon in lieu of its national ranking provided by Grabowski’s HCFO study. In addition to publishing a list of state rankings, Grabowski’s research correlated growth of assisted living business with occupancy rates, resident acuity, and resident reliance on Medicaid in nursing homes.
