HCFO-funded research led by Glen Mays, Ph.D., M.P.H. of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, was highlighted on the website of Medscape Medical News following recent publication in Health Affairs. The article, "Increased Public Health Spending Decreases Mortality," details Mays's finding that increased spending on public health results in measurable decreases in death from preventable causes.  This study was funded through a public health special solicitation through the HCFO program in 2005.
