search
tips
-
Queries are not case sensitive.
- Do
not enter frequently used words like 'about', 'is', 'end',
'very', 'under', etc. in the search box. These words are
considered noise or exception words and
will be removed from your search.
- When
executing an 'Advanced query,' exception
words generate an error.
-
Boolean operators (and, or, near, not) are also considered
noise words except in 'Advanced query.'
-
Use quotation marks only when entering an 'Advanced query.'
For 'All words', 'Any words' and 'Exact phrase' they may produce
unpredictable results.
-
Select 'All words' to find web pages and documents that
have all words entered in the search box
and ' Any words' to find documents with at least one
these words.
-
Try 'Exact phrase' if you expect the web pages and documents
you are interested to have the words typed in the search box exactly
in the same order and with same number of spaces between them.
-
'Advanced query' option is for experienced users.
You may use any combinations of boolean operators (and, or, near,
not and short forms &, |, &!, ~) combined using parenthesis.
- 'Search
page titles only' button is ignored if checked in 'Advanced
query'
-
Boolean operators are evaluated in the following order:
1. NOT
2. AND or NEAR
3. OR
After precedence rules are applied, operators are processed
left to right. You can use parentheses ( ) to override the
normal precedence.
-
Document properties can also be used. For example @DocAuthor
John | Doe will return documents with John or Doe in author
property and @DocAuthor John & Doe will return documents
with both words in the property. @DocAuthor Mac* returns documents
whose Author property begins with "Mac". Similarly you can
use @DocTitle, @FileName, @DocSubject
-
The default for 'Advanced query' is an 'or' search.
Exception
words
The
following words should not be entered in the search box. When
executing an 'Advanced query' they produce an error. For all
other type of searches they are removed from the words list. Single
characters and digits are also disallowed.
