What We Fund

HCFO funds studies designed to:

  • Examine significant issues and interventions related to health care financing and organization and their effects on health care costs, quality and access.
  • Explore or test major new ways to finance and organize health care that have the potential to improve access to more affordable and higher quality health services.
  • Promote the work of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to provide grants for projects in the United States and U.S. territories that advance the mission to improve the health and health care of all Americans.

No particular interventions or issues are prescribed. Proposals will be evaluated on their potential to inform health care policy.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grants funds may not be used:

  • To subsidize individuals for the cost of health care
  • To construct or renovate facilities
  • For lobbying of any kind or as a substitute for funds currently being used to support similar activities
  • To support foreign organizations or make grants to individuals and rarely support organizations that are not tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
